Thoughts offered from my daily readings in scripture. Devotionals are very important in the life of a Christian and should not be discounted or minimized.

Apologetics and Scholarship With Love

Few things are more infuriating to me than people passing themselves off as an expert in a field, that obviously lack the knowledge of the topic at hand, or the professional willingness to debate their assertions. Unfortunately, and as we all know, social media is full of such folk. Sniping responses with an adamant opinion of your error or inaccuracies, yet offering no evidence of such, and a yellow spine when it comes time to a willingness to defend their own comments. What typically follows in such cases, if any response whatsoever is given, is name calling, blame shifting, misdirection,...

Obedience; It’s Why Do We Study the Bible

Almost seems like a rhetorical question. But it’s not. Really, why do we study the bible? I’m sure each of us can come up with a number of reasons. Topping the list might be, to learn how to be a ‘better Christian’. Others might be to simply learn more about God’s Word in general, or to know more about Christian history. Some study to find encouragement for themselves, or for others. Some study to prepare a sermon or a devotional message. For that matter, some study to prepare a blog post. The Pain of Empty Fields

After serving the Lord for 8 years in the ministry in Bonney Lake, our family moved back to the Olympia area and purchased a piece of property, 5 acres in size near Tenino, WA. Here, for the last 4 years, and in some of the most formative years for our three children, this place has been our home. We have loved it, will likely never leave it, and have treasured this place and the fellowship we have had hear with great joy. During these 4 years, we have watched all three of our children become grown young adult. Each of...

Hope is Encouraging

The only thing that keeps many people alive today have, is hope. When I consider this, I feel like most people would agree that the first thing they might think of are the sick, starving sand persecuted peoples of third-world countries. And we’d probably be right to do so. But, we must not forget the sick and poor on this nation, in our State, in our communities that also lack everything but hope. As Christians, we deliver hope in the form of Jesus Christ. This is the best and last hope for all mankind. We need to be encouraging enough...

Reverence Lost?

Devotion: 1 January, 2015 This morning being the first day of the new year, it’s always wonderful to have the feeling of starting new. For our family, what’s new this year is that we are all studying through the same daily devotional. This devotional, authored by Dr. David Jeremiah (a conservative evangelical pastor with Southern Baptist roots) is titled Sanctuary, and is focused on taking the time to find “refuge in the presence of God”. That’s what Sanctuary is, taking refuge in Christ, finding time to set aside to make a visit with God important to us, each and every day. The...
