A Mother’s Advice

A mother’s job is (in part) to raise her children in such a manner that they are a well rounded, productive citizen that is prepared mentally, physically and emotionally to take on/deal with our world. Of course in the manner in which God has designed the family structure, the mother has help. The father is there to provide for her and assist as best he can in raising the child. Certainly there are responsibilities that  a father will be best at assisting with such as learning a trade skill, and ‘man things’ such as a proper hand shake, personal hygiene...

When we Fail at Righteousness

One of my favorite and go-to books when doing devotionals or just reading for the purpose of edification has been for year, Thomas a’Kempis The Imitation of Christ. Today I read the following: [Jesus talking to His disciple:] MY CHILD, you cannot always continue in the more fervent desire of virtue, or remain in the higher stage of contemplation, but because of humanity’s sin you must sometimes descend to lower things and bear the burden of this corruptible life, albeit unwillingly and wearily. As long as you wear a mortal body you will suffer weariness and heaviness of heart. You...

Goodbye America As we Knew You…

The last two days have proven that the system of government established by our Founding Fathers, has been abandoned. After fighting a war that took 8 years and 4,400 killed in action, the United States won its independence from England by the blood of her sons. The survivors of that war, long since venerated in the halls of liberty and freedom world-wide, took their time to frame a network of laws under our Constitution that gave liberty and justice the members of its union. They held up the rights of the individuals, gave specific rights to the States, and excluded...

Changes in Generational Expectations

I often joke with my wife who is 6 years my junior, about the differences in our generations. It’s funny really – because 7 years does not make a generation in anyone’s book. But in just those few short years, the world changed a great deal. What is even more interesting is how we each experienced those times before we met, and how it makes a difference in the way we remember things, how we reacted to those events and experiences, and in turn the effect is had on our lives. Silly, small things mostly, but different just the same....

Personal Theology vs. Christianity

We could talk for long hours about what’s “wrong” with Christianity today. I would begin any such discussion with the caveat that Solomon was right, there is nothing new under the sun. What so many of us see as contributing factors into the modern secularism of Christianity are not new issues, and not issues that are unique to our generation. God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and so are his created beings – including Satan. Sin is sin. It comes in many forms, and the devil will seek out your weaknesses to break your fellowship with...
